When do Angels help make miracles?
Several weeks ago, the phone rang at 12:30 am. I knew it couldn’t be good news. Nobody calls me that late at night.
I leapt out of bed and answered the phone. Just as I suspected, it was my partner Scott. He’d just finished playing a gig with his blues band in San Francisco only to discover that his truck, which he’d parked in an open air parking lot, was stuck behind a thick chain that locked the lot for the night.
Not sure what to do, Scott walked around the block looking for a parking lot attendant, but no one was to be found. He called to ask me if I could pick him up.
There were a few problems. It was now 12:45. I had no gas and only a vague notion of how to get where he was. It was a 40 minute drive to Lou’s Pier in the Warf of San Francisco. Additionally, I realized that we’d have to return early the next morning, in crazy traffic, to get his truck, and then drive back to the Peninsula. It would be several hours of bumper to bumper traffic. As a self-employed person my “morning commute” is about a six foot walk from my bedroom to my office. I wasn’t too eager to battle actual traffic.
But as I set out for my journey I remembered an interview I’d recently heard on coast-to-coast radio. It was with a woman who speaks with angels, particularly Archangel Michael. The more she talked, the more my skeptical mind wasn’t sure what to think. And then she said something that caught my attention. She said angels long to help us, but they only do it when we ask for what we need.
So as I drove to San Francisco I decided to experiment and ask Archangel Michael for help. This is what I said:
Michael, I need your help. This is exactly what I want to happen: By the time I arrive easily and safely at the parking Lot (I said this because I wasn’t sure how to get there), I want a parking lot attendant to appear out of nowhere with a key to unlock the gate so Scott can easily drive out of the lot.
I held the image in my mind for a moment and then let go of it, somehow trusting (or maybe just hoping) it would happen that way.
When I pulled up to the parking lot, which I found easily, Scott was behind a locked gate and there was no one around to help. My heart sank just a little. Disappointed that Michael hadn’t come through for me, I laughed it off as a silly plea.
But as I got out of the truck and started helping Scott transfer his equipment, I made eye contact with a man sitting in a dark car that was parked on the street. It was now 2:00 am, two hours after all of the parking lots had closed. The chances that this man was somehow connected to the parking lot were slim to none.
He got out of his car and started walking toward me. A bit nervous I asked, “Do you by any chance have a key to this gate?” I was doubtful, but miraculously he said, “Yes. I do. I work for an adjacent lot.” I was elated. He quickly unlocked the gate and let us out.
Scott said, “I don’t know where he came from. I looked everywhere for someone who might help me and there was no one around.”
I knew where he came from. I silently thanked Archangel Michael and drove away with a smile on my face that lit up the night sky.
I felt like a small miracle had taken place. Are angels real? I wondered.
What do you think? Have you ever had experiences with angels? Do you believe they exist?
Or do you think they’re made-up figures meant to teach stories to Sunday school children?

I love this story, Amy! Absolutely, I believe in angels, particularly in Archangel Michael who is represented in a beautiful Greek icon I bought in Crete several years ago. He hangs right over my bed. I also love him as played by John Travolta in the movie “Michael” – who wouldn’t love an angel that smelled of freshly baked cookies?
What would it be like to be an emissary of God sitting patiently waiting us to ask for help? I like to think of them in that way. Your story gives me hope. Thanks so much for sharing the Grace that is ours but for the asking.
Pam
Amy -
I KNOW angels exist. One in particular showed up for me at each of my five surgeries for breast cancer. This angel’s presence was comforting and assured me that I had nothing to fear. It was great being able to go into surgery with confidence that I was there for complete healing. I have been cancer free for over three years now!
Just recently I called on this same angel to support me through 12 hours of emotional court testimony. Once again I was blessed with Grace. Asking … even with some reservations … could prove to be a life altering experience.

Pam – I haven’t seen the movie Michael. I’ll have to check it out. My sisters and I all smell fresh baked chocolate chip cookies around us, even when no one is baking cookies (and all the windows are closed so I know the scent isn’t wafting in from outside). Maybe it’s an angel!
Karen – The asking part is what’s new to me, but it seems you’re right “asking could prove to be a life altering experience.” I’ve been asking for help ever since that day and mini-miracles are happening all over my life.
Amy, I loved your angel story. I collect angels: pictures, figurines, books. they are all over my house. St Michael guards my front door. His image as an icon faces the door. I pray especially to Archangels Raphael, Michael, Gabrielle and Uriel. Michael helps me out when I need protection, safety, strength, empowerment. I’m especially fond of St Raphael. When I was 5 I was enrolled in St Raphael’s School in Cleveland, Ohio. when I moved out here from Tenn., St Raphael’s Mission was a mile away from our new home and I joined in 1972. One Sun during Mass, I was feeling lonely. It’s a large parish and I wasn’t one to mix easily. I said a short prayer during Communion. ” It would be nice if I knew someone here.” I looked up and lo and behold my phys ed teacher, Mrs Baldacci (who taught me at Our Lady of the Elms School, Akron, Ohio from 1st to 12th grade) and her husband were walking down the aisle. It was a joyous and unexpected reunion.
My experiences do not include angels. I have heard many stories, and now several more, but I have not felt, smelled or experienced angels in any way that I recognized. And that may be it for me, recognition. I do ask the Divine for presence and I have felt it. I see things in other people in the here and now but I know that this is just who I am. My family of origin was so centered in Jesus and so anti-catholic that I missed amazing things. Maybe now is the time to be open to angles and other powers that are waiting to help me.
It seems to me, the Divine is eager to answer us, in whatever guise we attribute to it. ‘Ask and ye shall receive’ is a cosmic principle that hinges on the ‘asking’ because this is how we initiate a collaboration with Spirit. Symbolically, such sincere prayers for help are a reaching out of our hand to God (made personal as Angels, prophets, ancestors etc.). Our outreach is assured God’s clasp in answer – in keeping with best interest of all. In your case, Amy, the best interest of all was that you collect this experience as a topic for your forum. No doubt the angels are pleased for the attention you have garnered them here
@ Elizabeth: I love the story about seeing your old teacher. Especially so much later in life. Thanks for sharing.
@ Suzanne: I’d be curious to see what happens if you “open to angels and other powers that are waiting to help you.” Do an experiment and let me know what happens!
@ Jennifer: The asking is so important, isn’t it. I remember when I was in my Sufism module at ChI a Sufi woman told us how she didn’t just ask for help, but almost demanded help from God (in the “if you want me to do this, you need to help me” sort of way). It had never occurred to me to be so shameless in my request for help, but that experience changed my life and the way I interact with prayer. Great to have you join our conversation.
Angels are everywhere Amy…I know this to be true from my life experience. One instance that sticks out in my mind in particular is the day I walked away from a job because the surgeon I worked for had asked me to schedule surgery for a patient who, when I called him, said he had not even been given his diagnosis. I handled the situation and the next day told the Dr I could no longer work with him…he had not even told this poor man he had cancer.
Now what I asked myself. YOu have no job and no income. I was looking through the yellow pages praying that an angel would appear and guide my fingers. My right index finger landed on the name of a female physician whom I called right then and there. She answered the phone and she said she was looking for a nurse and could I come for an interview the following day.
I followed the angels guidance knowing that I was in the right place and I got the job. To this day, this Dr and I are good friends.
Angels are everywhere……all you have to do is believe.
Hi,
I found at the used bookstore one of the best books I have read.
“A Book of Angels” by Sophy Burnham. It has some wonderful information about Angels and she shared letters that had been sent to her that contain stories and experiences people have had with angels.
Yes the angels love us.
Hello Amy
I love your website!!! It’s beautiful and interesting!I love dreams and I’m just coming back from a wonderful workshop with Robert Moss in Amsterdam. Next week, I ‘m thrilled to begin the teacher training with him in Montpellier!
Your post on Angel resonate with an episode of my life: I was in a train going for a spiritual workshop in the south of france and was anxious, knowing I would have very little time to have my connection on another train and I didn’t know on which platform I had to go.I remembered to relax myself and trust I would be helped once arrived.
When the train stopped in Bordeaux, I managed to step down with my suitcase. As I rised up to walk on the platform I heard a voice asking me where I wanted to go. An old man was in front of me, a little notebook in his hands. As I told him the direction I wanted to go, he looked at the notebook and gave me the platform’s Number to get my train! I was thunderstruck!!! He didn’t wear uniform and it seemed I was the only person he helped (very few passengers) I precise It was not casual to find someone whose job is to help you in train station in france!
I’ve always wondered if he was an angel specially manifesting for me! This old man is one of my stars memories in this life!
Hi Sylvie,
Nice to meet you. Robert does a great job with workshops! I’ve taken several, including his TT in Washington state.
Your story sounded so much like a dream I thought it was one, but when I re-read it I realized it was a waking life “dream.” What a magical experience. Like you mention in your story, the letting go and trusting seems to be a key to letting help arrive.
Since you like dreams, you might check out my other site http://www.thedreamtribe.com. I’ve pulled together a group of 5 dreamers (including me) and we write about our dream discoveries and experiences.
Thanks again for sharing.
