Discover the deeper, spiritual meaning of your dreams"Your Dreams Are the Gold You Cannot Afford to Ignore."Have you ever had a big dream? One that stayed with you for hours, days, maybe even weeks or years? If so, you probably wondered what it meant. After all, when a dream like this comes calling you know it's trying to tell you something. What methods do you use to discover what your dreams mean?Have you ever done something like this? Imagine you wake up one morning from a startling dream about being chased by a snake. You hop on-line and search through a dream dictionary in hopes of finding the meaning. You discover that, according to one source, "snake is a phallic symbol and represents dangerous and forbidden sexuality." Baffled, you wonder what illicit sexual force is working its way into your life. You reflect momentarily on this interpretation, and, feeling quite confused, you decide this comment has nothing to do with you. Worthless information? Maybe. Unsatisfying results? Definitely. So, what do you do? Do you push the dream out of your mind and shake it off saying, “Forget it. It’s just a dream.”… Every time you ignore a dream, or only glimpse the most surface layer of meaning, you miss out on invaluable information that can shed light on even the darkest of situations. The trick about dreams is that you have to know how to explore their images to benefit from their zany plots. And it's completely worth the effort because dreams can help you:
But if dreams are so important why do they seem so difficult to understand? There are several reasons why it's difficult to interpretation your own dreams:It's easy to get caught up in the emotions of a dream which makes it difficult to ask yourself probing questions. When you have an emotionally charged dream you don’t feel very objective. You feel emotional. That’s one of the points of dreams – to help you get in touch with emotion because it helps you remember. But, emotions can also make it difficult to look at a dream from multiple perspectives. Dreams have many perspectives and when you can only see one, you miss out on many important layers of meaning. It’s easy to feel confused by the seemingly random images. Dreams come in odd “packages” of puns, symbols, metaphors and mythic figures. And while it can be easy to “unpack” and understand the symbolism of a few dream objects or characters, understanding what all of the images mean as a combined whole is another story. Additionally, dream scenarios frequently look like every day activity, which makes it easy to assume they are simple summaries of daily events. Usually, they are not. Dreams often address many issues all at once. What typically happens is that you can fairly easily understand one or two layers of meaning because those layers reflect something that is already a part of your conscious awareness. But understanding what you already know isn't really that helpful. You already know it! It’s much more difficult to grasp the information that speaks directly to the stuff that is just beginning to percolate up from your unconscious mind. Even professional dream workers need helpI’m a professional dream worker, an authority, if you will, on dreams. I know just about every dream work approach known to humanity, but even I have to call professional dream workers to make sense of some of my dreams. Other professional dream workers call me for the same reason. Sometimes it’s simply too difficult to figure out what’s underneath all of the obvious stuff. So...does this mean you should let someone interpret your dreams for you? Never! I don't interpret your dreams for you; I help you explore the depths of their meaning. Here's how it works: When you share your dreams with me, I only speak about them as though they are my own. I speak in the first person, referencing everything as though I had the dream myself. It's called "projection" because I project my experiences onto your dream. I do this so you can decide whether or not what I see in your dream is right for you. Here’s what you can expect: Dear Amy, When we work together I share my reflections, offer thoughts and ask probing questions that stem from my expertise in the field of symbols, archetypes, and mythology, as well as the experience I’ve accumulated throughout the past 20 years helping others unearth the many layers of meaning in their dreams. Depending on your dream, I might help you find:
But in the end, you get to decide if what I say is relevant and true. Not me. This is a far more empowering approach to dream work than to have me - or anyone or anything (like a dream dictionary) - telling you outright what your dreams mean. )Dream F.A.Q.Why do dream work? All dreams have the potential to help us grow in a healthful and authentic way. When we reveal the hidden meaning of our dreams, we begin to find answers to problems, juice for creative inspiration, and hope for a more meaningful life. I know people who dreamed of having cancer prior to being diagnosed. Directly following their dream guidance allowed them to fully heal 100%. I also know a woman who built a successful seminary based on one dream. I personally prevented myself from getting lost in the mountains on a rainy, muddy night in Oregon because I remembered a dream in which I rehearsed taking the "right" road. The list goes on and on and on... What dream methods do you use? The term "dream work" actually refers to diverse techniques that range in scope from analysis to creative expression of dream symbols and images. Regardless of the technique, dream work is the process of reflecting on your sleeping dreams (and sometimes waking dreams) so you can learn to understand the innate wisdom that pushes you toward wholeness. I do not use one method of dream work. My training is diverse, my approach varied and the methods we use during your session are dependent upon the dream you share. Usually I weave in a variety of methods in the form of questions I ask during our session. I frequently have creative suggestions, too, that can help you deepen your experience. How often should I work with you? People sometimes call me for emergency dream sessions, or whenever they have an urge to understand the meaning of their dreams. Others share their dreams with me on a regular basis. This practice has proven to be valuable. It allows me to get to know my clients’ dream symbols and more easily notice repeating patterns. How long are sessions? Sessions are typically one hour long. Can I work more than one dream during a session? Absolutely. Dreams often come in series, sometimes occurring in one night, other times over the course of a few days, weeks or even a lifetime. Are sessions confidential? When you share your dreams with me, you share very personal information about the inner workings of your mind, body, and soul. For this reason, everything you share with me is kept in strict confidence. I will not share your stories with anyone unless I get your permission first. What can I do to prepare? I highly recommend keeping a dream journal. This practice helps people remember their dreams more frequently and thoroughly. If you are new to dream work, check out the dream basics articles to the right. If you are a seasoned pro, there are some articles and techniques that may assist you in deepening your experience. What will I "get" or "have" when the session is over? In addition to your new self-awareness, when our dream session is over you will also have suggestions on how to embody and incorporate the dream information into your life. This is where I excel at helping you truly deepen your experience. It's up to you to put them to good use. What do I do? How do I sign up? When you sign up for a session with me you tell me in person, over the phone or through email as many details as you can remember about your dream. Together we use various methods to unearth the many layers of meaning. Call now to make an appointment: 510-506-1263 or send me an email
