Dreams of Wind and Weather

Tornadoes. Dorothy ran from one. People chase them. They destroy everything in their path, but leave things outside of their path completely untouched.

So what do dream tornadoes represent?

Destruction and chaos? Maybe…Just like Dorothy, whenever we dream of a shift in the weather it is a clue that we might be experiencing, or may be about to experience a shift in:

  • perception
  • our circumstances
  • our emotional state
  • our spiritual consciousness

Since wind in general stirs things up, dreams of wind are often metaphors for change.

Wind is archetypally a metaphor for the breath of God, or the Divine.

Wind is a poetic image of the animating spirit whose effects can be seen and heard but who remains invisible.

— From Symbols and their Meanings by Jack Tresidder

Dreaming of strong wind is sometimes frightening because we know on some level to expect an upheaval, a shift in our lives that is beyond our control. I think it’s safe to say that many, if not most of us, like to be in control of our lives. We like to change when we’re ready.

But dreams of wind help us remember that we are connected to something greater than ourself, which may be Spirit or the universe, and that change is inevitable. It happens whether, or weather, we like it or not.

Notice the weather in your dreams. What is happening? Is it windy? Stagnant? Does this parallel your life in any way?

Kind words from Ezine readers...

You always have something useful to say, & often in a way others don't address. Of the overwhelming scads of email I get and barely peruse (or mostly delete), I actually read and value your newsletter. Thanks for being, doing and sharing.
